“Night of power” which falls on the last five days of Ramadan period is very significant during this time. This is the time when the holy Quran was revealed to Mohammad. On this day special prayers are offered throughout the night and devotees also offer camel and goats which is further used for the suhur.

But one fine day when he was travelling all around his kingdom, he came through a old man. The man was diseased and this pained Gautam Buddha to the core. And when he discussed the same with his chariot then he replied that anyone cannot avoid or escape from the miseries of old age.

And that was the time when Gautam Buddha decided to leave all his worldly royal comforts and went for the search of knowledge and entitlement to the forests. He sat and meditated for years below the trees and at Body Gaya below a Bodhi tree he received enlightment. This is the reason the place is visited regularly by his followers all over the world.

Lord Buddha is one of the biggest preacher of non violence and he was against holding animals as pets. He believed in freedom and thus he always was of a view that firstly animals should be set free. He used to urge his followers to never have animals as their prisoners. Also, he used to ask people to be on vegetarian diet and not kill animals for their own sacrificial purpose.

Good Friday 2020: History of Holy Festival

Good Friday is considered as the day when Lord Jesus was punished for being good. He was hanged to the cross because he was “Son’s God” and he has sacrificed himself for the betterment of others or more precisely the world.

It is said that Jesus died because of our sins. This day is also known as Holy, Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday or Easter Friday. It is one of the most important festival for Christians.

We all know that Jesus was crucified on this day. So, why do people celebrate this as “Good Friday”. Well, most of you might not know but “Good Friday” because actually it was known as God Friday. The term Good Friday was coined because of the term Good which actually signifies a positive sign or has a holy attribute attached to it.

On the eve of Good Friday, lord Jesus was lured by one of his followers – Judas. Judas was one of his 12 followers who kissed him and thus this act exposed to the chief priests.

Jesus was immediately arrested and then he was beaten, his clothes were torn and he was also spited upon. Later a crown of thorns was placed on his head which we still see at various places where Lord Jesus is seen on the cross.

Nails were also driven through his hands, ankles and even his wrist area. Jesus was then placed on the cross, the inscription of which read “The King of the Jews”. It is said that Jesus suffered on the cross for six long hours and finally he died.

As soon as he died the earth got a major earthquake. Post his death, the followers and disciples of Jesus carried him in secret and buried him as per the Jewish traditions. Two days later Jesus was resurrected.

Mahavir Jayanti 2019- It is one of the most important Jain festivals. The festival is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Mahavir. Lord Mahavir was the twenty fourth and last Tirthankara of Avasarpini. As per the Georgian calendar, the festival occurs on every year either in March or in April. This festival is also known as “Mahavir Jamma Kalyanak”.

Mahavir Jayanti will be celebrated on April 17^th , 2019. The festival will be celebrated this year on Wednesday. Major states where Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated are – Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Karnataka, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.

Birth Legend of Lord Mahavir

Kundagram which is located at the Champaran district of Bihar is said to be the birthplace of Lord Mahavir. According to the Jain texts, Lord Mahavir was born on the thirteenth day of bright half of the moon in the month of Chaitra in the year 599 BCE. Mahavir was born in Vajji which was a democratic kingdom.

Lord Mahavir was named as “Vardhamana” which literally means one who grows with the prosperity of his kingdom. Mahavir was widely respected in his kingdom and among the villagers. A place called Ahalya Bhumi has not been ploughed since ages because this is considered to be the birth place of Lord Mahavir.

Lord Mahavir was born into Ikshvaku dynasty to the king Siddhartha of Kundagrama and Queen Trishala. During her pregnancy period only, the queen used to have regular dreams that a noble religious soul is coming into the world.

Mahavir Jayanti 2019: Celebrations Rituals

Mahavir Jayanti is grandly celebrated on the birthday of Lord Mahavir. Possession in the form of Rath Yatra is also carried out which showcases the idol of Lord Mahavir. Bhajans and many other religious praises of Lord Mahavir are also sang during this period.

Abhishekam is performed on the idol of Lord Mahavir. Fruits, flowers, seeds along with milk is offered to Lord Mahavir. Many devotees of Lord Mahavir irrespective of their religion come together and visit the temple and sing songs about his praises.

Majority of Lord Mahavir’s teachings were concentrated on Ahisma. On this day, people try to show their love and affection towards living creatures. Charity is also promoted during this day and even food, clothes and other things are distributed among the needy people.

Large crowd of devotees gather around the Mahavir temple. In India one of the biggest Mahavir Jayanti celebrations take place at Hanumantal Jain Temple at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

Devotees are seen indulged in 100% vegetarian food on that day. They mostly have sweets, fruits and stay away from garlic and onion.

Lord Mahavir’s Spiritual Awakening

Lord Mahavir had a blessed childhood. He lived in prosperity and grace as he was born in a prosperous kingdom. His parents were ardent devotees of twenty third Tirthankara, Parshvanatha. This had an influence of Mahavir’s personality as well.

Lord Mahavir took the path of solitary at a very young age. He left his home, kingdom and the royal life at the age of thirty. He even went ahead and abandoned his clothes. He sat for twelve years under a sal tree at the banks of Rijupalika river which was near to a place called Jrimbhikagrama which is located in the Bihar state.

At the age of fourty two, he attained infinite wisdom and knowledge. He travels through different parts of India to spread his knowledge and wisdom. He had a huge number of followers including 14000 male, 36000 nuns and another half a million male and female followers.

As per the ancient mythological legend of Jainism, lord Mahavir took 27 re-births before he was born as a Mahavir in the sixth century.

Earlier Mahavir Jayanti celebrations were only limited to the temple celebrations. Devotees used to gather at the temple and celebrate it with the utmost spiritual belief. In past some years, Mahavir Jayanti celebrations have become much more grand and bigger in scale. Now a days, the procession goes out and the idol of lord Mahavir is displayed and circulated in this possession.

Significance of Mahavir Jayanti

Mahatma Gandhi also widely used to praise and follow the discipline and principles of Lord Mahavir. He always used to say that Lord Mahavir is the biggest follower of non violence and peace.

Ram Navami 2019: Puja

During Ram Navami festival people clean their houses and display the pictures of Lord Hanuman, Sita, Ram, and Laxman. Flowers and incense sticks are also decorated alongside the idols.

Two thalis are kept near the puja place in front of the idols. One thali contains the prasad whereas the other thali contains important items for the puja like – roli, aipun, rice, water, flowers, bell, and a conch.

Puja of Ram Navami begins by applying red bindi on the forehead of the youngest member. Red bindi aka sindoor is also applied on the forehead of all married women members. Puja begins by first sprinkling holy water on all the participants. Bhajans are sung and firstly the prasad is offered to Lord Ram and other idols and then it is distributed among the devotees.

Ram Navami will be celebrated on 13th April which is a Sunday in India. The puja timings are 11:06 A.M. to 13:38 P.M. The puja duration is approximately 2 and a half hours.
