The Mandana Mountain was used as a Churning rod. Initially, a pot full of fatal poison was produced that was drunk by Lord Shiva. When the pot (Kumbh) of nectar of immortality appeared, the demigods seized the pot fearing the ill intention of the devils.
As the demons understood that the agreement has been breached the demigods; they chase the demigods which continued for 12 days & 12 nights. As the demigods were running & hiding, the nectar of immortality from the pot fell at 4 different locations-Allahabad, Nasik, Haridwar, & Ujjain.
