She was the only female student at the Federation University in Australia where she was studying malting and brewing. She definitely made a name for herself when she came to the top of a class and on herself a masters degree in the year of 1975.
She decided to come back to India in 1975 and her personal life had been in the constant struggle for a few years from then. She could hardly land a job in India, given the fact that she was a woman.

Early career:
She had completed her training as a bro in the Carlton and United Breweries. And she had also spent some quality time as a technical consultant in the Jupiter breweries Limited in Calcutta.

In the year of 1978, and in the garage of her house in Bangalore, with a mere amount of 10000 Rupees, she started off with Biocon as a joint venture.

Fortunately, though the challenges existed, she decided to give it a go and within a year was able to export these enzymes to that of US and Europe. Since then there has been no turning back for her, and she expanded her business into biopharmaceuticals as well.
