With a couple of days left on the calendar, for the beginning of the Maha Kumbh in the town of Prayaga raj, here we present the story of the Kumbh Mela before you.
Kumbh Mela, inscribed on the UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of religion during which Hindus gather to take a bath at the holy confluence. Bathing in the waters of Sangam, that includes of the waters of the three holy rivers, the Ganges River and also the Yamuna and also the mystical Sarasvati at the holy city of Prayaga raj is believed to free an individual of all their sins.
There is a story attached to this holy festival. According to Hindu mythology, Jayanta, son of Lord Indra, accidentally spilled some drops of Amrit the drink of immortality at four places, while transporting it in a Kumbh. These four places are known as the present day sites of the Kumbh Mela.
The festival is taken into account as the "world's largest congregation of spiritual pilgrims". We welcome you to experience ‘Divya Kumbh, Bhavya Kumbh’ at Prayaga raj scheduled from January 15th to March 4th, 2019.
