The True Meaning of the Holy Month of Ramazan

Ramadan or Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims all around the world. It is celebrates as a month of fasting. For Muslims, Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community and this whole month is considered a Holy month. This Holy month of Ramzan is considered as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month lasts for around 29–30 days based on the visual sightings of the moon, and on the last day the festival of Id-Ul-Fitr is celebrated.
The word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ramiḍa or ar-ramaḍ, which means scorching heat or dryness. Fasting is compulsory for adult Muslims. While fasting from dawn until sunset, people observing the fast known as Roza, refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids and smoking. People observing the Roza are also supposed to refrain from any kind of sinful behavior and fighting except in self-defense. During this whole month, the people observing Roza are believed to adopt a simpler approach towards life and do deeds that help the under privileged in order to gain some good deeds on their name.
