भरत के लिए आदर्श भाई, हनुमान के लिए स्वामी, प्रजा के लिए नीति-कुशल व न्यायप्रिय राजा, सुग्रीव व केवट के परम मित्र और सेना को साथ लेकर चलने वाले व्यक्तित्व के रूप में भगवान राम को पहचाना जाता है।

उनके इन्हीं गुणों के कारण उन्हें मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम राम के नाम से पूजा जाता है।
