Bhaagwat Puran is one of the eighteen Puranas of Hindus. It is also called Shrimad Bhagwatam or simply Bhagavatam. Its main theme is Bhakti Yoga, in which Krishna is depicted as the God of all the Gods or God Himself. Apart from this, devotion to Ras Bhava has also been represented in this Purana. Traditionally, Veda Vyas, known as the author of this Purana. Shrimad Bhagwat is the crown jewel of Indian poetry. The path of devotion recited by Lord Shukdev to Maharaja Parikshit is as if the step is only. There is fragrance of Shri Krishna-love in each of its shrolok. It has a wonderful collection of inspiring anecdotes with means-knowledge, siddhigyan, means-devotion, siddha-bhakti, maryada-marg, grace-path, dvaita, advaita coordination.

In the Ashtadasa Puranas, Bhagwat is a very important and famous Purana. In calculating the Puranas, the Bhagavata is regarded as the Ashtam Purana (Bhagavata 12.7.23). In the Bhagavata Purana, Maharishi Sutaji narrates a story to the sadhus presented to him. The sages ask him questions about various incarnations of Vishnu. Sut ji says that he had heard this story from another sage Shukdev. It has a total of twelve wings. All incarnations are described in summary form in the first wing.

Nowadays, two Puranas bearing the ‘Bhagwat’ legend are available:

(A) Devi Bhagwat and

(B) Srimad Bhagwat

Therefore, in both these, whose calculation is required in the Purani category? A solution to this question is necessary.

Finally, after reviewing it in various ways, it seems that Shrimad Bhagwat should be considered as Puran and it is appropriate to keep Devi Bhagwat in the category of Upurana. There is silence about the form of Shrimad Bhagwat Devi Bhagwat. But Devi Bhagwat counts ‘Bhagavata’ under the subparts (1.3.16) and himself under the Puranas. The Bhuvanakosh mentioned in the Devibhagpanpancham wing literally follows the subject presented in the fifth wing of Srimad Bhagwat. The eight shrolok (5.9.21–28) that propound the glory of Bharatvarsha in the Sri Bhagavata are quoted literally in the Devi Bhagavata in the same order (8.11.22–29). The difference in the descriptions of the two is so much that where the Srimad Bhagavat takes a natural medium of prose for the sake of the description of the subject, Devi Bhagwat uses the artificial medium of the shrolok to demonstrate the uniqueness.

The exact decision of Bhagwat’s country has not yet been made. In the eleventh wing (5.38-40), people who drink water from the Dravidian rivers of Kaveri, Tamraparni, Kritmala, etc., have been described as devotees of Lord Vasudeva. It is considered by scholars to be a clear indication of the Alavars (Vaishnavite devotees) of the Tamil country. In the Bhagwat, with specific signs of the Vaishnava shrines, rivers and mountains of the South, some scholars consider Tamil Nadu to be the place of its rise.

There is a substantial difference in the subject of time also. It is certain that Bopadeva (late 13th century, who practiced ‘Harililamrut’, ‘Muktaphal’ and ‘Paramhansa Priya’, associated with the Bhagavata and whose refuge was Yadav king of Devagiri), Mahadeva (1260-71) and King Ramachandra (1271-1309) Eminent theologian and minister, eminent theologian Hemadri, in his ‘Chaturvarga Chintamani’ quoted many of Bhagavat’s words, cannot be considered the author of Bhagwat. Shankaracharya’s grandfather, Guru Gaudapadacharya, in his ‘Panchakaranavakhya’, ‘Jagruhe Paurusham Rupam’ (B.S. 1.3.1) and ‘Uttara Gita Tika’, in the ‘Credit: Sruti-bhakti Mudasya te Vibho’ (B. 10.14.4), two shrolok of Bhagavata. Has quoted. With this, the creation of Bhagwat cannot be considered archaic by the seventh century.

Bhagwat has 18 thousand shroloks, 335 chapters and 12 wings. The leela avatars of Vishnu are described in its Sukumar language in its various wings. But the tenth Skandha is the heart of Bhagwat, giving a detailed account of Lord Krishna’s fine pastimes. In other Puranas, such as Vishnupurana (fifth part), Brahmavaivarta (Krishna birth block), etc, the character of Krishna is fixed, but in the tenth wing, the character of Leela Purushottam is described as unique from the sweet language, soft padvinyaas and devotion.
