However, be it old or new, there is always room for the stories that give a new meaning to your life. The situations and the people in it may slightly differ but the core principle of it is the same.

  • All the Difference in the World

On Sundays, I go for light jogging in the park nearby. Every time I go to the park, I notice a lady sitting at the banks of the lake located inside the park. Surprisingly, every time, the lady carries a small metal cage with her.

Last Sunday, I could not hold back my curiosity too long. So, I went to her. As I drew closer, I realized that the cage was a trap with three turtles within it. One turtle was placed on her lap. She was rubbing its back with a sponge.

Finally, I asked, “What are you doing with the Turtles?”

She said, “Well, I’m cleaning their shells because the formation of algae on their back makes it difficult for them to travel all around. Also, with time, the shells weaken.”

I was amazed by the thought! Soon, I came to know that the lady does this every Sunday. I asked further, “But, almost all freshwater algae live their whole life with algae.” She replied, “Sadly, they do.” I continued, “Don’t you think you can spend your time in a much better way? I mean, your efforts are really appreciating.”

The lady giggled and looked at me, “Dear, these little creatures cannot speak. I wish they could speak and tell you if I had made any difference in the world.”

MORAL: You can change the world little by little.

  • The Weight of the Glass

Once, a professor of psychology was delivering a lecture on stress management. The auditorium was filled with students. As soon as the professor picked up a glass of water, the students thought that he is about to ask the same old clichéd question of a glass half empty or half full. However, the teacher asked the students, “How much is the weight of the glass that I’m holding right now?”

Answers poured in from all corners of the auditorium. Students shouted with a weight range of eight ounces to a couple of pounds.

The professor replied, “If you consider my perspective, the actual weight of this glass does not matter. What matters is the time for which I can hold the glass. If I carry it for a minute, the time is fair. Again, if I can hold it straight for a whole day, my arms will get cramped and force me to drop the glass soon.”

The whole class agreed. She continued, “similarly, your daily stress is like the glass of water. The more you think about it, the more it troubles you.”

MORAL: Let go of your stress. Do not carry your burden all day. Live each moment.

  • Shark Bait

While carrying out an experiment, a researcher placed a shark in a large tank and pour in several fish baits. Naturally, the shark ran after the baits one after another and gulped them all. Next, the researcher placed a divider into the tank. Then, he kept the shark on one side of the divider and the fish bait on the other side.

Again, the shark began attacking the fish bait. But this time, it got slammed at the divider and bounced back each time. Still, the shark kept on repeating this several times. On the other side of the partition, the fish bait remained unharmed. Finally, the shark gave up after a while.

Then the researcher took off the divider. To his surprise, the shark did not attack the fish bait. By now, it was trained. The shark started believing that there was a divider between him and the fish bait.

MORAL: Failures and setbacks are a part and parcel of our lives. Just like the shark, we imagine setbacks in our mind and keep away from risks. But, remember, no risk, no gain.

  • Being and Breathing

Long long years ago, on a warm evening, I spend some time with Angel walking with her. I lingered t say just a few words to Angel. As soon as she fell asleep, I whispered it in the ears of Angel. She smiled and said, “When I turn 75 years and reflect upon my life and think of my youth, I hope this moment comes like a flashback in my mind.”

Being and Breathing

After a while, the room was completely silent. I spend the rest of the night thinking about the times that we spend together. The past or the future did not hold any significance to me. It was the present that mattered. Just lying by her and breathing with her.

MORAL: Do not allow the external pressures to rule your life. It should be just the opposite.
